We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Data Privacy and Security Specialist to join our team and ensure the protection of our platform’s data and the privacy of our community members.

Role Overview:

As the Data Privacy and Security Specialist at, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining data privacy and security measures to safeguard sensitive information and comply with relevant regulations. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, legal, and product development, to assess risks, implement security protocols, and respond to data privacy incidents. This role requires a strong understanding of data protection and cybersecurity practices, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the tech industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Data Privacy Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with relevant data privacy laws, regulations, and industry standards.
    • Monitor updates in data protection regulations and advise the organization on necessary adjustments to policies and procedures.
  2. Data Security
    • Develop and implement data security protocols and best practices to protect user data from unauthorized access, breaches, and cyber threats.
    • Conduct regular security audits and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and address security gaps.

    • Create and maintain an incident response plan to handle data privacy and security incidents effectively.
    • Lead incident response efforts, including investigation, containment, and remediation.
  4. Data Governance
    • Establish data governance frameworks to ensure proper handling, storage, and retention of data.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to define data access controls and permissions.
  5. User Privacy Education
    • Educate internal teams and community members about data privacy best practices and their role in protecting user data.
    • Conduct privacy training to enhance awareness of data protection responsibilities.
  6. Vendor Management
    • Evaluate and monitor third-party vendors and service providers to ensure they meet data privacy and security standards.
    • Review vendor contracts to address data protection requirements.
  7. Security Awareness

    • Communicate security policies and procedures to all relevant stakeholders.
  8. Diversity and Inclusion Advocacy

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (3+ years) in data privacy and security management, preferably within the tech industry or community-focused organizations.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy laws and regulations, such as GDPR and CCPA.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, risk assessment, and incident response procedures.
  • Familiarity with data governance and data protection frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse teams and community members.
  • Security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CISA) are a plus.
