Role Overview:

As the Legal Counsel at AfrosInTech.com, you will play a critical role in advising on legal matters and ensuring that our platform operates within legal and regulatory boundaries. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including management, product development, and human resources, to address legal issues, draft agreements, and develop policies. This role requires strong legal expertise, excellent communication skills, and a passion for promoting diversity and inclusion within the tech industry.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Legal Advisory
   • Provide legal counsel and guidance on a wide range of legal matters, including contract law, intellectual property, privacy, and data protection.
   • Analyze and interpret laws, regulations, and policies affecting the platform and its operations.
2. Contract Drafting and Review
   • Draft, review, and negotiate various agreements, including vendor contracts, partnership agreements, and content licenses.
   • Ensure that contracts align with the platform’s objectives and protect its interests.
3. Privacy and Data Protection
   • Oversee the platform’s compliance with data protection laws, including GDPR and CCPA.
   • Develop and implement privacy policies and practices to safeguard user data.
4. Risk Management
   • Identify and assess legal risks related to platform operations and initiatives.
   • Develop strategies to mitigate legal risks and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
5. Intellectual Property
   • Manage and protect the platform’s intellectual property, trademarks, and copyrights.
   • Conduct intellectual property searches and filings as necessary.
6. Regulatory Compliance

Qualifications and Experience:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution.
• Licensed attorney in good standing with relevant jurisdiction(s).
• Proven experience (5+ years) as legal counsel, preferably within the tech industry or community-focused organizations.
• Strong knowledge of contract law, privacy law, intellectual property, and data protection.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to assess legal risks and provide sound advice.
• Effective communication and negotiation skills to work with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Familiarity with technology-related legal issues and digital platforms.
• Experience in managing legal disputes and external counsel.
